New Year, New Everything! - Student Success

New Year, New Everything!

Campus is a whirlwind of activity as the 2016-2017 academic year begins. Each department is trying to improve their functionality and usefulness to students, but the Academic Success Center has made vast changes to create the ideal environment to cultivate what we want the most – academic success for all students.

The ASC began this academic year with a faculty retreat. Our staff (Jerome Lee, Cecil Rose, and Tracy Hall) went to Ponce City Market for a two day retreat, getting away from the bustle of campus life to work closely as a unit. Without the distractions on campus, the ASC was able to work on incredible improvements to how we work and what we can do for students.

As many have noticed, the ASC is now located in the TLCC instead of the basement of the library. The ease of access allows students to find us much more easily and get questions answered faster. The new location gives us the chance to work with other programs such as Global Education, Career Development, and the CCE to create a more integrated and fulfilling campus experience for students.

Besides the new location, this year we have also added drop-in tutoring! From 4-8 Monday through Thursday, you can drop in at the cafeteria to get tutored on a variety of subjects. These drop-in appointments are only for thirty minutes at a time, but this allows you to find which subjects have which tutors and hopefully gives you a chance to pick a tutor you like!

This year, the ASC has one big goal – raise awareness of what we do and how we can help you best. We offer a variety of functions, including tutoring, disability services, academic coaching and much more.

Remember, we’re here to serve you and make your time at Oglethorpe a happy, fulfilling, successful and stress-free experience! Come see us!
