Oglethorpe has partnered with Mentor Collective to offer two mentoring programs for current students.

Oglethorpe University First-Year Mentor Program

This peer-to-peer mentoring program connects first-year students with returning students, ensuring our newest students have an established connection on campus from the moment they arrive. The program is open for new mentees and mentors all year long.

Are you a first-year student who would like to be matched with a mentor?

When you sign up for Mentor Collective, you will be matched with a student mentor who can provide personalized support and help guide you during your first year at Oglethorpe. As a peer, our mentors have been where you are now!

To get started, register, and complete a short survey telling us about yourself. Depending on what characteristics are important to you in a mentor, we’ll match you with someone that has a similar background and/or shares common interests.

Become a peer mentor

 

Being a mentor is more important now than ever. You’d be able to provide a space for first-year students to discuss their experiences at Oglethorpe and beyond, as well as connect them with resources that build resilience. Mentors truly play a critical role in the transition of first-year students. You can help make a positive impact on the lives of first-year students at OU.

Oglethorpe University Alumni Mentor Program

This program connects returning students (sophomores, juniors, seniors) with alumni mentors. Oglethorpe’s Career Development office leads this program.

Oglethorpe’s mentoring programs enhance the student experience by linking them one-on-one with an alumni or peer mentor. Students are paired with someone invested in their success — a person ready to listen, inspire, help navigate challenges, and recognize opportunities. Students will learn what to expect in their academics, how to approach challenges and where to go for help, and gain career advice. At the same time, mentors will build their networks and develop skills to become better professionals and leaders.

How it Works

Students are matched with an alumni or peer mentor based on common interests, background, academics, and professional aspirations. To get started, students and mentors register and complete an online survey to paint a holistic picture of their interests and experiences.

What do Mentors and Mentees Discuss?

• How will my major impact my professional options?
• How do I balance the demands of school, responsibilities, and socializing?
• How can I set myself up for academic, social, and career success?
• How do I make connections with peers and professional contacts?

This program is in addition to advising from professional academic advisors in Student Success.
